The London King’s College LeDeR 2022 Report found that 42% of all deaths in people with a learning disability were deemed to be avoidable. Of these deaths, cancer caused 15.7%, an increase from 8% in 2021.
Ansar Projects, Coppafeel! and Orchid partnered up to use their collective experience to plug an information gap and create easy read cancer resources. The resources aim to address the health inequalities faced by people with a learning disability, including supporting them to know their bodies.
The resources are the first of their kind. They include accessible breast and testicular cancer information packs, including symptom guides. The resources also include self-checking cards and social stories and information on what to expect if you notice a change.
