What is the RESTORE2MINI and STOMP training?
RESTORE2™ is training aimed at giving carers the confidence to recognise and communicate soft signs of illness in people with a learning disability. It gives carers the knowledge of where and who within the health services they should contact, and the language they need to get the right help for the person they support sooner.
STOMP (Stop over Medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both) is a national initiative involving many difference organisations which are helping to stop the overuse of psychotropic medicines.
Who is this session for?
This training is an hour-long snapshot of the original RESTORE2™ training developed by NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network. It is specifically aimed at non-frontline social care staff who work with people with a learning disability and their families (for example social workers, commissioners, etc.), but who do not support people with their health day to day.
What will I learn from Thera’s RESTORE2Mini and STOMP training?
As a non-frontline social care/healthcare professional, this training will help you to understand:
- The health inequalities people with a learning disability face
- The importance of soft signs when a person’s health is declining and how these can be communicated effectively to health professionals using the SBARD tool
- The risks of over-medication and the principles of the STOMP campaign
- How to use your learning in your role to enhance your advocacy skills and ask the right questions on behalf of the individuals you work with
- How to use your role to spread the message and guide individuals and their circles of support to access the healthcare they need
