What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is used to help a person have a better quality of life and to help their staff team understand how best to support them.
At Thera, we use Positive Behaviour Support to make sure a person is at the centre of their support. It is a person-centred framework containing many elements of good practice which includes ensuring that our support is person-centred, values based, and human rights led.
Supporting peoples well-being, understanding people’s communication needs, sensory preferences and how to build a meaningful relationship are just some of the key things that help us to understand a person, and support them to have the best possible life.
Thera’s approach to Positive Behaviour Support includes:
- Focusing on the person’s physical, psychological, emotional, and social well-being
- Understanding when someone might be struggling or trying to tell us something through their anxiety or behaviour
- Using models to help such as PERMA-H training, Trauma Informed Support and Applied Behaviour Analysis to better understand someone’s behaviour
- Promoting independence and autonomy through Person Centred values
