Ansar Projects are a local company within the Thera Group operating in Bury and surrounding areas, experienced in working with younger people who have a learning disability. Ansar offer support to young people leaving education and child services, and beginning their journey into adulthood. They offer short breaks through Highgrove as well supported living, which includes supporting people who are ready for more independence to find their new home.
Locally, Ansar Projects delivers personalised support. When some of the people they support expressed an interest in growing fruit and vegetables, the staff team at Ansar Projects set about fundraising for a new greenhouse. Following the successful fundraising drive, people supported by Ansar Projects and their staff, as well as colleagues from Thera Trust, came together to renovate the garden of Highgrove and install the greenhouse. Following this they received a plaque from the National Garden Scheme who had donated some funds to the greenhouse project.
In recent times Ansar Project’s impact has reached further than the Greater Manchester area. Along with Orchid and CoppaFeel! they created the Know Your Body resources, which helps people with a learning disability get to know their own bodies. The resources were Highly Commended at the recent National Learning Disability and Autism Awards, and were also named as a useful resource in the latest LeDeR report.
Ansar Projects continues to support people with a learning disability to live the life they choose, building a local community based on friendship, that empowers people leaving one stage of their life and entering another.
