What is the Ansar Wellie Workout Walk?
The Wellie Workout Walk is a virtual walk by people supported by Ansar Projects and their staff teams. Wearing step counters, we will walk enough steps each week for us to have walked to a different Thera Subsidiary. Each week, we will hold a virtual event with the company we are walking to which will help us all find out more about the people and places that are part of the Thera Group of Companies. For each section of the event, the people we support receive a sticker to place on a map of the UK, a flag to represent the area of the UK, and a recipe card with a local dish on it.
So far, we have met with Thera Scotland, and had Vegetarian Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. Our brilliant walker did 251 miles – more than the 208 miles that we needed! We also met with Thera North and had Fish Pie. But there are still many more companies for us to meet!

What is Ansar’s Allotment project?
Ansar’s Allotment Project is a long term aim to develop an allotment to support people with a learning disability gain new skills and have fun with others. The Wellie Workout Walk will help to fund a greenhouse at our short breaks house Highgrove.
We need to raise £1000 to be able to buy the greenhouse and have a positive impact on the lives of people we support in Bury.
“The Ansar allotment will become a great opportunity for the people we support to make their lifestyles healthier and develop friendships in the community. People will be able to grow their own choices of organic fruit and vegetables at the same time as having a peaceful and safe place to relax and meet with others with shared interests and goals. The exercise that comes with gardening on an allotment will be great for people’s physical health and spending time outdoors with nature and plants will impact greatly on their mental health and wellbeing”.
