Connecting Midlothian Socially is an evening event which is held monthly by a team of fabulous community volunteers. The event was the brainchild of our very own Diane Carson, Theresa Hogg and their friend Stuart from Enable 10 years ago. They had many discussions about what to call it! There were lots of nerves before the first event wondering if anyone would come, but they did not need to worry. The events continue to go from strength to strength and are attended by people with a learning disability across Midlothian.
Lots of new friendships and even a few romances have blossom as a result of Connecting Midlothian Socially.
Along with the support from Davy Gillian who supported us with the first few discos as our DJ (with the assistance of our now regular DJ Glen), who has been so loyal. The ongoing support from Mayfield Community Club has helped make this a success, we are so proud of how long and well attended this event still is, even after a pandemic, it is so good to see many of the regulars and so many new people enjoy their night in a safe and happy environment.
We hold dances, discos and themed events for as many as 80 people from our local community!
The 10-year Anniversary of Connecting Midlothian Socially will be held on the 3rd November.
There will be a cabaret and a delicious buffet.
It’s going to be a Spooky Halloween fancy dress night!
Pictures below show what a great time everyone had at Connecting Midlothian Socially – 80’s themed event, they had a great night and enjoyed getting dressed up, great music provided by our resident DJ Glen.
