What do Equal Futures do?
Equal Futures are a learning disability charity based in Scotland. Equal Futures was founded in 2002 by a group of parents with family members with a learning disability. In 2015 we became part of Thera and have continued to expand since then!
We aim to help people with a learning disability to not feel isolated. This is done by supporting people to make social connections, create circles of support, and attend social events.
There are three main parts to what Equal Futures do.
Befriending services
Equal Future’s Befriending Service exists because we recognise that being social is important for a good quality of life. Our 1-1 befriending service for people with a learning disability matches you with an adult volunteer befriender. The befriender can come with you to activities, clubs, and events in your local community.
Circles of Support
Circles of Support are an important part of what we do at Equal Futures. We can help to build a Circle of Support around you to help you achieve your goals.
Social Events
Social Events with Equal Futures allow the community to come together regularly. We host them to give people we support a chance to meet up and take part in new activities. A few examples of activities people we support have done before are Zumba, Martial Arts, Mindfulness, and Computing!
We currently support people in:
• Glasgow
• Edinburgh
• Midlothian
• Scottish Borders
• Renfrewshire
• East Renfrewshire
• Perthshire
• East Ayrshire
• North Ayrshire
• South Ayrshire
What is the Survey for?
We want to hear from you if you’re in the Scottish Borders, West Dunbartonshire, and Inverclyde. Our survey is about social isolation and befriending opportunities in the area you live. It will help us to understand if we might be able to help in the area in the future.
Where can I do the Survey?
To help Equal Futures, you can fill in the survey using the button below. It doesn’t take long to complete but will help us get an understanding of how we may be able to help you in the future.
