Michelle started her role as Executive Chair for The Quality Company in July 2020.
The role of the Executive Chair includes shaping the board’s Non-Executive Directors. She will also be working with other Chairs throughout Thera Group to help develop their boards.
Working alongside The Quality Company, Michelle also supports the development of technology and ensures communications are accessible for the people supported by Thera.
Since starting her role, Michelle has been very busy alongside her new Executive Assistant, Debbie.
With the current global pandemic Michelle cannot meet her colleagues face to face.
However, she has found the use of online technology as a way to build relationships with her colleagues from across the UK whilst being able to stay at home even though this has been challenging at times.
Michelle has been working very hard to get to know her role and colleagues by chairing board meetings and supporting the return of The Quality Company staff coming back from furlough through taking part in virtual training sessions.
Michelle has also been working hard to make documents, policies, and online forms easy to read and accessible.
With a lived experience of a learning disability, Michelle has been using her expertise to make sure all communications are accessible for the people who are receiving their quality check.
Michelle said:
The COVID-19 restrictions have been a challenge when trying to get to know people and my role, but I have met people I wouldn’t have usually met thanks to online technology. The challenge will be when we are able to go out and about again and I am looking forward to see how my role develops.
Michelle values the support that everyone at The Quality Company and Thera have given her.
Alongside all of these exciting projects, Michelle’s role includes shaping The Quality Company’s Board. Michelle and The Quality Company are actively looking for Non-Executive Directors to join their board.
They are looking for people who may:
- Understand being on a board
- Have a lived experience of learning disability
- Have knowledge of quality control
