Graham Skidmore is Service Quality Director for Thera East and has lived experience of learning disability.
Graham has first-hand experience of the challenges people with a learning disability face in finding a job. He wanted to help other people find employment. He decided to set up an employment group where people could share advice and experiences.
The group has created four employment booklets which aim to help people with a learning disability to find work.
The booklets are guides to getting a job, whether that is paid or voluntary.
- Employment booklet 1 is a guide to getting a job.
- Employment booklet 2 will tell you how to write a CV and cover letter. It also gives you tips for attending interviews.
- Employment booklet 3 is about where you can get help with looking for a job in your local area.
- Employment booklet 4 will tell you how to prepare for having a job and the paperwork they will need to read and sign.
The Thera East employment group plan to hold workshops across Thera Group companies to share the booklets. People will be able to read through them and ask for help with finding employment.
Graham is also planning to create a video to go alongside the booklets, which will make the information more accessible to people.
